LEAD Workshop

LEAD Group 1

The LEAD workshop, being held March 21 & 22, 2015,  is designed for emerging leaders from Pennsylvania’s local chapters to gain leadership and development skills.  Ideally, participants will be freshmen or sophomores.  Each school may send a total of six (6) students, and registration will be on a first come – first served basis, for a maximum of 60 participants.

The SNAP Board of Directors is very excited to be able to offer this workshop once again, and we want to thank PINNACLE HEALTH for hosting and sponsoring this event once again!  The program will be held in the Brady Building at Pinnacle Health, and they will be supplying lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday  The faculty includes David R. Ranck, Cindy Schmus and other nursing leaders.  We sincerely hope chapters take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn more about leadership and development on an individual and organizational level.

The Comfort Inn Riverfront has a block of rooms available for participants.  The room cost per night is $79.99 plus taxes.  Please mention you will be attending the SNAP LEAD workshop when making your reservation.  The phone number is (717)233-1611.

Capitol Hill Step by Step:  Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Capitol w flag

SNAP welcomes all SNAP members to this legislative program, Capitol Hill Step by Step is an inspiring learning experience about the political process, and nursing students have the opportunity to learn on location at our beautiful State Capitol Building in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The learning objectives are that at the conclusion of the program the participant will be able to:

1. Describe how a bill becomes a law;
2. Describe the relationship of the political process to the nursing profession; and
3. List three actions that individual nursing students can take to help influence the outcome of legislation and rules and regulations.

Capitol Hill Step by Step is available at no charge for nursing students and/or faculty. All participants are on their own for lunch at any of the many restaurants near the Capitol. Tours of the historic Capitol Building will be part of the afternoon activities, with tours scheduled for 1:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. SNAP encourages all participants to learn who represents them in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate and either contact them prior to the day for an appointment or stop by their office after the tour.
Contact your school’s SNAP chapter president, faculty advisor, or dean/director to inquire about signing up to attend for these events. Participants do not need to be members of SNAP. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Shingler, SNAP Executive Director, at (717)671-7110 or email snap@snap-online.org.
Walk through Capitol Hill Step by Step with your chapter and soon you will take our political process in stride!
